You know you’re in Japan when: This photo has no great meaning. I just like it. Shot it out the window of the shinkansen (bullet train) as it paused at the Tokuyama station in Yamaguchi prefecture.
This was, I think, the last stop before the train whooshed through the tunnel linking Honshu with Kyushu. I downloaded the map from Wikipedia, which shouldn’t mind.
Can’t get much more industrial than this view, and it extended for at least a mile. This area is known for refineries and chemicals. The dreary shades seemed to capture the feeling. Only the sign offered a hint of color.
I like the layers: foreground with benches and sign, middle ground with the port and the background hills. It can’t be anyplace except where it is.
